POINTS OF PRIDE
All families have the option to enroll their child in ALP or to return to on-campus learning at any time, and as often as needed.
The CDS Health and Safety Team held their first meeting this week. This group of medical professionals from our parent community, school leadership, and faculty representatives will meet to review and update policies, procedures, and precautions that ensure the health and safety of our entire community.
Seniors Inshara A. and Karice S. host the first episode of Patriot Podcast, a project of the Student Action Leadership Planning Team [SLAP(T)] to raise awareness and share viewpoints about current events.
We are grateful to have an experienced, "in-house" leader like Nancy Hsu ready and able to continue the upper school's momentum and progress.
CDS is very fortunate that Sara Rubinstein is able to assume her new role as Interim Head of School from a position of great strength and positive momentum.

What does it mean to THRIVE? A recent webinar with Dr. Michele Borba had me thinking about this along with Sonja Lyubomirsky's happiness research showing us that at least 40% of our happiness is based on our choices. A small part may be circumstances or genetics, but we CHOOSE the rest through our thoughts and actions.
Michele Borba reminds us that the skills to THRIVING are learned. This may account for that 40% that Lyubomirsky refers to. So, HOW do we do that? Based on years of longitudinal research from Emmy Werner, Norman Garmezy and others, Borba identifies the four "C"s:
- A Caring Connector (can be a parent, but also teacher, relative, or other)
- Connections with the community (school, church, clubs, etc.)
- Confident Cheerfulness (sense of hope)
- Coping skills
You can practice these skills in many ways, including positive reframing, maintaining an internal locus of control, practicing positive self-talk, and more. Read on for more details.
Positive Reframing for less stress
Internal vs. External locus of control
Thank you to our CDS Director of Wellness & Upper School Counselor, Krista Diamond, for contributing this article and for keeping the entire Patriot Nation focused on wellness.

BOX TOP$ FOR EDUCATION
Box Tops for Education is an important tool for CDS to raise funds for small projects. Our school's lifetime earnings are $16,552. We are setting a goal of $1,500 this year.
BTFE is going digital! The new and improved Box Tops app uses today's technology to scan your store receipt, find participating products and instantly add Box Tops to our school's earnings online.
You can still send in traditional clips. If your package has a traditional Box Tops, cut it out and send them into to school. Each clip is worth 10 cents. You can scan your receipt and clip the Box Tops and get twice the amount.
