As the holiday season approaches, we all need to consider our plans carefully, especially when it comes to travel and gathering. Returning to School Safely
At the end of each school break, all families are required to update the “COVID-19 Questionnaire” for each student on the Magnus Health portal before students can return to campus. This brief form will need to be filled out electronically on the Magnus Health website or app by Monday, January 4. This is a self-reporting form and does not require a physician’s signature.
Following Winter Break, families are encouraged to enroll their children in ALP if you have engaged in high-risk gatherings/travel or if you have heightened concerns.

COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS |
We are pleased to announce the launching of Patriot Nation Community Connections. This online business directory promotes businesses and talents of CDS current and alumni families. As a member of our community you have the opportunity to place a listing in the Patriot Nation Community Connections free of charge.
With this project, we hope to begin to build more than just a community of shared talents. We hope this resource will also open up opportunities for new business ventures, internships, and even future jobs for graduates! We can support each other by creating a family-to-family network of businesses and services. This is an advertising opportunity you can’t afford to miss!
- Five positive diagnoses; elementary (3) and middle school (2); the individuals and 56 close contacts are quarantining in accordance with CDC guidelines.
COVID-19
SURFACE TESTING
CDS conducts periodic surface testing for COVID-19 using Phylagen Surface™ test kits for detection of the presence of SARS-CoV-2. The test relies on RT-qPCR to sensitively detect the novel coronavirus. Last week over 60 high-touch locations at both campuses were tested.
- One positive result; door handle located on the exterior door of the weight room.
- One undetermined result due to contamination from cleaning solution; kitchen serving area.
2021-2022 BYOD @ CDS |
As part of Carrollwood Day School's ongoing efforts to provide all the tools necessary to prepare our students for excelling in the 21st century, all students in grades 4-12 participate in a BYOD program. This initiative is not new at CDS, we have had a 1:1 device program since 2007.
Beginning in 2021-2022:
- Students in grades 6 - 12 may choose to purchase a MacBook, Chromebook, or Windows laptop.
- Students in grades 4 and 5 are required to have an Apple iPad.
Your support of Annual Giving at Carrollwood Day School is vital to our ability to offer an extraordinary education, quality programs and services to our students.

CDS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation and you can take advantage of this tax incentive. All donations or stock transfers must be postmarked by December 31, 2020 to qualify.

ECC & ELEMENTARY AFTER CARE |
KidCheck®
All children who stay for before or after school care must be registered in KidCheck®. It is recommended that every ECC and elementary family create an account. If you used KidCheck last year, your account is still active.
Before school care begins at 7:00 am at the Bearss Avenue campus for ECC and elementary students. (ECC students will need to register for the ECC shuttle bus.) Before school care begins at 7:45 am at the ECC.

SCHOOLOGY FOR MS & US |
Schoology is a web-based learning management system that provides a secure and safe, easy-to-use, way for teachers, students, parents, and administrators to seamlessly communicate and collaborate to enhance students’ learning and success.
The access codes and instructions for creating parent Schoology accounts were sent home with MS and US students.
SEESAW FOR ECC & ELEMENTARY |
Stay Informed with SeeSaw
Seesaw is the primary communication tool used by ECC teachers. Seesaw provides a secure and safe, easy-to-use, way for students, teachers, and parents to seamlessly communicate and collaborate to enhance students’ learning and success. Seesaw is a digital portfolio that students will use to showcase what they are learning and doing at school and share with their family.
Once Seesaw is activated for this school year, returning families will use their same account. Access codes and instructions for creating parent Seesaw accounts will be sent home to new ECC parents during the first two weeks of school. Here is a quick introduction to how Seesaw will connect you to your child's learning and classroom!
MS & US AFTER SCHOOL STUDY HALL |
Middle School and Upper School students are welcome to remain on campus after dismissal. After school policies have been established to enable students to remain on campus after school and participate in athletic team practices/games and other supervised afterschool activities. No student will be allowed to "hang out" on campus unsupervised after dismissal. Students who are not participating in an athletic team practice session are not allowed to be in the gymnasium or fitness center after school. These facilities are fully booked by the athletic teams.
Supervision for Middle School students will begin at 3:00 pm. Supervision for Upper School students begins at 3:30 pm. Following dismissal, all students must be in an extracurricular activity (working with a teacher, attending an after school program, athletic team practice, drama/music rehearsal, etc.) or report to the MS Study Hall which is held in the MS Student Lounge and Design Tech classrooms or to the US Student Lounge for US Study Hall. Teachers staffing study hall this year are Mr. Jannereth and Ms. Polezhaeva.
- There is no charge for students to attend the MS/US After School Study Hall.
- Normal study hall hours are until 6:00 pm every school day.
- All students reporting to MS/US study hall must sign in and sign out.
- Students will be allowed to sign themselves out of study hall when their ride home arrives or to go to a sports event; parents will not need to come in to sign out their child. Parents should call or text students once they have arrived on campus. Some cell service does not work inside the school building; if you are unable to contact your child directly, parents should call the school (813.920.2288) and the Welcome Center will notify the study hall supervisor to dismiss your child.
- Once a child is signed out of study hall, he/she will not be allowed to return. Once children are signed out of study hall, they will no longer be supervised by CDS faculty.
- The expectation is for a "quiet" study hall, but the teacher supervising may allow exceptions for groups working together on school projects or assignments.
- Study hall areas must be left as clean as found.
- All school rules/policies apply during study hall hours. Behavior issues will be reported to the parent. Repeated behavior issues will be referred to the Middle School administration.
Questions? Please contact Mr. Jannereth, MS/US After School Study Hall Coordinator.
