Learning does not stop at the end of the school day.  Elementary and Middle School students can choose from a variety of after-school programs designed to create enthusiasm for learning while building creativity, imagination and positive social skills. These programs are offered by CDS staff and other professionals who want to share their talent and passion for their field.

Programs vary throughout the years.  This sessuib students can participate in Art After School, Chess, Equestrian Club, 4th Grade Weekly Review, Homework Lab, Intramural Sports, Music & More, Nexplore Makers Club, Karate, and Zumba Kids.

Please note that all programs have minimum and maximum enrollment numbers.
is on a first come, first served basis. These enrollment numbers vary by program.

Students will assemble in the elementary courtyard for each program.

All after school clubs and activities dismiss from the elementary side at the regular elementary dismissal area. Students who are not picked up within 15 minutes of their club's dismissal time will be escorted to AfterCare in the elementary multi-purpose room.

Parents are billed monthly for each visit to after care.
Please note, after-care is billed at full hour increments per day.

Students in grades 1 - 8

High school art teacher, Seth Firestone offers classes on Tuesdays from 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm.
Students can select individual classes or enroll on Tuesdays for the entire semester for $560.

  • Frank Stella Boundary Breaking Wall Sculpture
    Tuesdays - March 26, April 2, 9, and 16
    Fee:  $150

Frank Stella Boundary Breaking Wall Sculpture

Students will explore the paintings and sculptural work of artist Frank Stella whose work challenged the boundaries of the traditional square canvas. They will also challenge these boundaries while learning about unifying a composition through the use of color, shapes, and pattern. Afterwards they will construct their own relief wall sculpture in the likeness of Frank Stella's artwork.

  • Georgia O'Keeffe Investigative Painting
    Tuesdays - April 23, 30, May 7, 14, and 21

    Georgia O'Keeffe Investigative Painting

Students will learn about the American painter Georgia O'Keeffe. After the students discuss her work they will consider her use of painting as a means to enlarge and bring attention to the minuscule details that often go unnoticed.  They will investigate her use of color and abstraction as well as the minute details of their own subject matter and use it as a means to create their own painting.

Chess is for students who are interested in learning to play chess. The non-competitive atmosphere is for students who are beginner through advanced levels. Pizza and drinks will be served.

Members of the Chess Club are able to participate in several local tournaments each semester.

Chefs, are you ready to get into action? Mixing, pouring, chopping is a tasty way to learn about nutritious foods and safe kitchen skills.

Kids will arrive at the beautiful West Coast Morgans (WCM) equestrian facility and get a healthy snack before starting their horse activities for the afternoon. Activities will include education and safety around horses, safe horse handling techniques, daily grooming as well as carriage driving, and equestrian-specific physical fitness exercises. Kids will get hands-on horse time, and work towards driving the horse and carriage by the end of the session, demonstrating proper steering and control (instructors are present in the carriage at all times). All lessons are with a private instructor, and instruction will be individually-based with assigned personal goals for beginners through advanced levels. These activities teach excellent spacial concepts, team building, and responsibility & caring for an animal that appreciates the relationship - all while having FUN and staying SAFE around horses.

Parents are encouraged to come visit WCM and watch the lessons; all students must be picked up at WCM by 5:30.

Items needed for participation:

  • Short Jodphur Riding Boots (English or western)
    Easy option to visit local tack stores and tell them your student will be attending WCM: 
  • Black Riding Gloves (all sizes available) - purchase from WCM  ($15)
  • OPTIONAL: WCM Cinch Bag for boots, gloves, sunscreen, etc.  ($25)

  • Helmets will be provided by WCM - or - students may bring their own bicycle/riding helmets


Homework Lab
Students in grades 5 - 8

Mr. Espinosa is conducting a homework lab designed to assist students with completing assignments, projects, or studying for tests and/or quizzes. Students from 5th-8th grades will have the opportunity to complete homework in a quiet, academic environment with a certified middle school teacher. There will be a limit of no more than 12 students per day, on a first come first serve basis. Homework Lab will meet in Mr. Espinosa’s classroom ( 204B) in the Middle School.


CDS Elementary Patriot Intramural Sports Program

Girls and Boys in grades 2 - 5: 
There will be a 2nd - 3rd grade division and a 4th - 5th grade division.

Intramural Sports Program is designed to build skills and create interest in Basketball, Flag Football, Volleyball, and Soccer.

CDS partners with Mark Pinner Karate Clubs to bring karate lessons to CDS. The after-school karate program develops physical fitness and body control as well as emphasizes respect, discipline, courtesy, and personal responsibility.  Classes consist of non-contact activities such as focus drills, skill building games, exercise activities and basic Shotokan karate techniques.

The fee includes an annual testing fee, and a showcase/tournament (noncompetitive) fee.  In addition, students will be asked to order a karate uniform after the second class which will cost $40. They are tested in May annually to see if they have progressed to the next level, and are given stripes to put on their uniform. 

The class will be taught by an instructor from Mark Pinner Karate Clubs. This group teaches at many area schools, and Mark Pinner has taught school age children for over 20 years.

Learn how to make your own comics with the help of a real live cartoonist! Create your own characters, worlds, and stories, and develop your writing and drawing skills at the same time.

Nexplore Makers Club is an engineering program designed to inspire kids to pursue futures in science & technology. Students interact with fun Maker Kits that enhance mechanical, artistic, and engineering skills, while encouraging them to act as inventors in their own right. Participants design their own hydraulic claws, learn to harness energy to power race cars, and experiment with structural design. Plus, students can keep their inventions and proudly share their projects with family and friends. Nexplore Makers Club is fully aligned with Next Generation Science Standards, and reminds kids to always explore, experiment, and create. Piano and Voice Lessons for Students in grades 1 - 8

Lessons are offered on Mondays through Thursdays from 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm

Educators love Zumba® Kids because of the effects it has on children: increasing focus, building self-confidence, enhancing creativity and coordination, boosting metabolism and implementing teamwork skills. Each class is headed by a trained and licensed Zumba® Kids fitness instructor. Classes not only include music and dance, but arts, crafts and cultural education, as well. It is a fun way for kids to keep healthy and motivated!
