2015 - 2016 Athletic Highlights

Hayes Family Gym

In April 2016 CDS dedicated the “The Hayes Family Gymnasium,” phase one of the school’s “Center for Student Life." The more than 11,000 square feet of playing space in the massive gym can be divided by a motorized roll-up divider curtain and has room for two regulation size basketball courts or three full-size volleyball courts. Bleachers emblazoned with “CDS” provide seating for 498 fans.

8/19/2015: Tampa Bay Times had great pre-season write up on the team

9/14/2015: The varsity volleyball team was ranked #1 in the state by MaxPreps. They were also currently ranked 31st in the nation.  

9/23/2015: The varsity volleyball team was ranked #1 in the Tampa Bay area by the Tampa Bay Times. This is the first time a CDS team has earned this honor.

9/24/2015: Tampa Tribune featured the varsity volleyball team.   

The varsity volleyball team had a great showing at the Berkeley Premier Tournament. They finished in 6th place, which was the top spot for any team in the Tampa Bay area. Tampa Bay Times story

9/28/2015 – Stevie Schweitzer (’16) had 22 kills in the Patriots’ 3-1 win against Clearwater Central Catholic. The senior led CDS with 156 kills on the season and a 16-2 overall record The team's only losses were in the Berkeley Premier, where Stevie was named to the All-Tournament Team.

10/7/2015 – Varsity volleyball remains the #1 team in the Tampa Bay area. They closed out district play by beating Seffner Christian. Tampa Bay Times write up

10/13/2015 - The varsity volleyball team finished the regular season as the top ranked team in the area in all classifications. Tampa Bay Times story.

Honorable Mention: Nick Neugebauer (’16) 

After a solid 7 and 4 regular season, the CDS golf team took on their 7 district opponents in the season ending tournament. Despite solid performances by Siddharth Chackravarthy (’20) @ 88, Brady Nipps (’22) @ 89, Carson Yonker (’20) @ 90, Tyler Schoellhorn (’20) @ 96 and the team’s best finish by Nick Neugebauer (’16) @ 78, placing fourth, the Patriots fell one place short of qualifying for the Regional Tournament as a team. Senior Captain, Nick Neugebauer (’16) was named a medalist on the All District team.


Jack Pironti (’18), won the Hillsborough County Freshman/Sophomore meet. Rachel Stevenson (’18) placed 10th in the girls’ race.

FHSAA 1A Region 2 Finals: Jack Pironti (’18) placed 4th with a 5K time of 17:19. Rachel Stevenson (’18) placed 21st in the 1A girls’ 5K race with a time of 21:21. The boys' varsity team had a team score in the 1A race for the first time ever!

Greg Klug (’16) was named a Top Performer by the Tampa Tribune

Spencer Peek (’16) and his soccer season were featured in a story published in The Laker/Lutz News.

Gunnar Brynjolfsson (’20) finished as the District Runner-Up in his weight class. Jayson Gruden (’19) and Ammar Ali (’19) both finished 4th in their weight classes at the FHSAA District tournament.


Emma Frost (’17) and Sydney Pelaez (’18) were mentioned in the Tampa Tribune softball district preview. 

3/3/2016 – Emma Frost (’17) led the county with a batting average of .75! Tampa Bay Times story.


The 2015 Patriot Swim Team had four Class 1A Regional qualifiers: Lilly Kossoff (’16) in the 50 free and 100 breast and Madi Drablos (’19) in the 500 free. Patriot girls’ 200 free and 400 free relays also qualified for Regionals. Congrats to Taylor Scott (’21) and Emmy Paglicci (’18) for moving on in these events.
