Welcome Colin DeHate
On April 5, 2019, Colin DeHate was named head boys basketball coach and upper school biology instructor at Carrollwood Day School. “I could not be happier to have Colin DeHate joining the CDS family. Coach DeHate will bring great enthusiasm and passion to the Carrollwood Day School basketball program. His core values align perfectly with the core values of Carrollwood Day School. We are incredibly lucky to find a qualified educator who is also a top notch basketball coach. I look forward to working with Coach DeHate for many years as he builds upon the success that our boys’ basketball program has had,” said Baker Mabry, CDS Athletic Director.

DeHate has served as assistant boys basketball coach and science instructor at Seffner Christian Academy for the past five years, and served most recently as an adjunct professor of biology for Southeastern University. As a coach, he helped lead the SCA program to two Final Four appearances in the past three years, including two district and regional titles. This season he helped lead the Crusaders to a 25-7 overall record, and a state championship game appearance. “Carrollwood Day has made an amazing hire to lead its boys’ basketball program” shared Sam Moorer, SCA Assistant Head of School and Head Basketball Coach. “Colin has been a key part of our success at Seffner Christian, and I am excited for the opportunity he has in front of him. His passion for the game, relationships with our players, and tireless work ethic have meant the world to me and our entire basketball family at Seffner Christian, and we wish him nothing but the best.”
Throughout the last five years, DeHate has developed players and fostered relationships with college coaches resulting in the recruitment of 14 student-athletes that have played or will play at the NCAA D1/D2/D3, and NAIA programs. College & Universities include: University of South Florida, The Citadel (South Carolina), Harding University (Arkansas), Worcester Polytechnic Institute (Mass.), Trinity College (Connecticut), Benedictine College (Kansas), Oklahoma Wesleyan, Florida College, LeGrange College (Georgia), Trinity College (Florida), Penn State University-Beaver, and Utica College (New York).DeHate played high school basketball at Seffner Christian Academy from 2006-2010, winning District titles in 2007, 2009, and 2010. He played college basketball at Clearwater Christian College from 2010-2014, earning a degree in biology. DeHate earned his master’s degree in toxicology and risk assessment from the University of South Florida in 2017.
