1st, 2nd, 3rd, and more!
Carrollwood Day School had a great showing at the first forensics meet of this year on October 17 at Berkeley Preparatory School. CDS had first-time forensics competitors place along with veteran competitors, who shined with their expertise. Twelve students attended the meet and 11 took home trophies – including three 1st place honors!
The Carrollwood Day School Forensics Team is coached by middle school learning specialist, Aliya Killion. CDS is a member of the Bay Area Forensics League competing in public speaking with students from other area private schools. There are seven categories for competition.
At this meet, CDS placed in five of the seven categories of competition and here are our winners:
For Original Oratory students perform a speech that he/she wrote.

Declamation is where students perform a previously published speech.
- 1st: Carter C. (’23)
- 2nd: Aditi K. (’24)
- 5th: Justin M. (’23)
Duo Interpretation of Drama is when pairs of students read from a script.
- 1st: Maddie M. (’23) and Mia K. (’23)
- 3rd: Maddie B. (’23) and Hailey A.-K. (’23)
In Individual Drama, students must perform all of the characters in a scene.

Last, but not least, in the category of Impromptu, or extemporaneous speaking, students draw a topic card and have one minute to prepare a one to three minute speech.

The two remaining categories for competition are Oral Interpretation of Poetry, for which students read a poem and Prose, where students read a dramatic monologue or a piece of literature.
