Adding a New Dimension to History
Mrs. Stanley’s 8th-grade Humanities classes are learning about early exploration of the Americas by different cultures. They were asked to conduct research about an explorer, exploration device, or culture that was found in the Americas. Once they conducted their research, students were asked to create a project that demonstrated their understanding of their research. Some students chose to create a book, others chose different visual representations, and this year several students designed files in 3D to be printed.
Through innovative technology, the students were able to demonstrate and deepen their understanding by bringing historic artifacts to life. Recreating these artifacts helped students develop creative thinking, inquiry learning, and problem-solving skills as they stepped into the shoes of the original innovators who first created these tools for exploration.
