Welcome Chris "CT" Taylor

Baker Mabry, CDS Athletic Director is pleased to announce that Chris “CT” Senoga-Zake Taylor has been named the new basketball head coach. Taylor coached at Carrollwood Day School under Teddy Owens this previous season when the team went 24-4 overall, claiming the District Championship, and becoming Regional Runner-ups. Taylor's coaching responsibilities included player development, academic mentoring, and team building events just to name a few.

Chris Taylor “Coaching is an honor that should never be taken for granted. There have been a lot of inspirational and motivating coaches that helped me flourish by developing my potential into talent, and I am forever indebted for all they have helped me accomplish academically and athletically. I am thankful that I am still able to communicate with them even now in my latter years. I look forward to developing these fine young men on and off the court whether academically, athletically or in their personal lives as so many have done for me. I am proud to be a part of the CDS family."

Before joining the Carrollwood Day School coaching staff, Taylor played professionally overseas in Europe, South America, some minor league teams in the United States, and had the chance to work out with a couple of NBA teams before retiring in 2013. Throughout his career Taylor was active as a volunteer, coach, and mentor to a lot of great young men in the Tampa community who have continued on to play collegiately.

Taylor received his Biology degree in science from The Citadel, Military School of South Carolina, while playing as a walk-on under Pat Dennis for a season. Born In Kenya and raised in Germany, Taylor is fluent in five languages: German, English, Zwahili, Luganda, and a mixture of French and Spanish due to his father's military background during his childhood.

“Chris is very deserving becoming a Head Coach” says Denver Nuggets Assistant Coach, Stephen Graham. “He’s been through the ups and downs of being a player, to having to have to step away from the game he so dearly loved, only for it to call him back. However, this time the calling was not for him to play, instead it is for him to teach and provide the youth with vast knowledge taught to him by so many other great coaches such as Ted Owens, Larry Brown, Mike Brown, and Sam Mitchell. I look forward to much success and many wins in the future. Congratulations!”

“I would like to take the time to thank Carrollwood Day School staff, Baker Mabry, the administration, and the athletic department for giving me the opportunity to become their next Head Coach," said Taylor. "I am forever grateful to Teddy Owens for hiring me as his assistant coach and allowing me to grow under his leadership and knowledge throughout my coaching experience. I’ve had the privilege of having him as my high school point guard going to the state final four, to coaching with him here at Carrollwood Day School (20 years later) and establishing a foundation that I look forward to adding to. I am honored to coach at a school that emphasizes academic excellence and development of Character.

"Our goal is to build champions for a lifetime in all areas in life, and I’m happy to be able to continue that tradition. We will continue to build a winning program in the school, community, and state. Thank you so much for adding me and my family to the CDS family. I excited to share my experiences and knowledge with the students at CDS.” Go Patriots!
