CDS Musicians Shine
Carrollwood Day School was well represented by Sam Zhang, T.C. Le, and James McDonough this past weekend at the annual Florida Music Educators Conference.
Sam Z., 4th grade, is the first student from CDS to be chosen as part of the All-State Orff Ensemble. The Orff teaching method engages students in music activities such as singing, dancing, acting, and the use of instruments. It often uses barred instruments such as the xylophone, metallophones, and glockenspiels. The group rehearsed during the Music Educator’s Conference for two days before performing at the conference before a packed house of family, friends, music educators, and administrators from across the state. We are extremely proud of Sam and his accomplishments!
T.C. L., 7th grade, was selected to present his original composition “Ringtone” for the Digital Music Showcase. This was T.C’s second time being selected to present for this program that is open state wide to entries from elementary through high school students. This exciting showcase offers a unique opportunity for students who enjoy creating music with technology. To make the experience even more meaningful, each student receives personal feedback from a panel of composers.
James M., 8th grade violinist, was selected for the Florida All State Middle School Honors Orchestra. Students selected for Florida All State ensembles are afforded a unique experience of playing with other elite student musicians from across the state. After two very long rehearsal days conducted by a guest clinician, the experience culminates in a concert performance of challenging orchestra repertoire.
