Forensic Meet Results

Patriots Place in Every Category

The Middle School Forensics Team dominated the meet at Berkeley Preparatory School yesterday. Twenty-three students attended the meet, and 15 took home trophies!

Forensics is a public speaking competition. CDS students compete with students from other Bay area schools. There are seven categories of competition, and CDS had a student place in every category!

The first category is Original Oratory, where students perform a speech that he/she wrote.  

  • 1st: Carter C. (’23)
  • 3rd: Maheer P. (’23)

Declamation is where students perform a previously published speech.

  • 3rd: Aditi K. (’24)
  • 4th: Justin M. (’23)

Duo Interpretation of Drama is when pairs of students read from a script. 

  • 1st: Suhani S. (’22) and Alexa G. (’22)
  • 4th: Maddie B. (’23) and Hailey A.-K. (’23)

Students read a poem for Oral Interpretation of Poetry.

  • 2nd: Gabe S. (’22)

For Prose, students read a dramatic monologue or a piece of literature.

  • 1st: Fiona W.-C. (’22)
  • 2nd: Hailey S. (’23)
  • 5th: Shelby O. (’22)

In Individual Drama, students must perform all of the characters in a scene.

  • 1st: Clay K. (’22)

Last, but not least, in the category of Impromptu, or extemporaneous speaking, students draw a topic card and have one minute to prepare a one to three minute speech.

  • 3rd: Ryan I. (’23)
  • 5th: Cooper C. (’23)

Coach Jenna Cohen is so proud of all the participants. The other students who attended this meet were Vikram B. (’23), Kate D. (’23), Nate F. (’23), Zach G. (’23), Sophie H. (’23), Andre R. (’23), Nick S. (’23), and Annika S. (’24).

The next forensics meet will be held on Wednesday, February 7, 2018.
