Taking Flight The CDS Way!

Taking Flight

Ryan Kelly, Head of School, greeted 165 faculty and staff at the annual welcome back breakfast on Monday. The first order of business was to introduce the 22 teachers and staff who are new (or “new again”) to CDS this year. With everyone gathered together and eager to prepare for the students’ return, Kelly unveiled the “Taking Flight” logo designed by Director of Marketing, Shannon Gauthier, representing the theme for this year.

Carrollwood Day School has been on a steady trajectory of unprecedented growth and accomplishments and the 2015-2016 school year is already “Taking Flight.”  Enrollment is at an all time high, with growth in every division. Construction has started on the new gymnasium, Phase 1 of the Center for Student Life which will enhance both the physical education and athletic programs at CDS. The Class of 2015 has set the bar for academics earning an 89% pass rate – exceeding the worldwide average pass rate and setting a new high for CDS. The STEEM program will be “Taking Flight” with the middle school’s two new design tech labs and all the new equipment and tools for preschool through high school purchased with the “Fund A Need” donations made at last year’s auction.  Elementary students will be “Taking Flight” as they broaden their interests and learning in their new Enrichment Clubs. Kelly charged the faculty and staff to take flight themselves this year as they set personal and professional goals to challenge and enrich their own lives.

Dr. David Streight, Senior Scholar for CSEE spent a full day at CDS during the preplanning week to work with faculty, staff, and parents to refine the shared vision for character development at CDS. Purposeful character development infuses all aspects of the CDS experience. It is fundamental to the development of the attitudes and skills that enable CDS students to thrive in the classrooms, on the stage, in athletic competitions, with peers and others.

On Wednesday afternoon, CDS faculty and staff along with ambassador families and student leaders welcomed new students entering grades 1 – 11 and their families. With over 200 new students this year, the Annual Ice Cream Social was held in two locations! Elementary students and their families met in the Elementary Multi-Purpose Room and new middle school and high school families gathered in International Square.
