Spring MAP Testing
Dear Middle School Parents:
It's that time again! Starting the week of April 19th, we will begin administering the spring MAP, or Measures of Academic Progress™ tests. We give students MAP tests in the fall and the spring in order to determine each child's instructional level and to measure academic growth throughout the school year, and from year to year, in the areas of reading and math.
This spring, these test sessions will be completed during students' math and language and literature classes. Sixth grade students will test from April 19th-22nd; seventh grade will test from April 26th-29th, and eighth grade students will test from May 3rd-6th. Your student's schedule will remain the same, as both on-campus and ALP students will take their MAP tests during their regular math and language and literature classes. The untimed MAP tests will be completed on the computer. There is no suggested preparation for MAP tests other than a good night's sleep and a healthy breakfast. Therefore, homework and assessments may carry on as usual.
MAP tests are unique in that they adapt to be appropriate for your child's level of learning. As a result, each student has the same opportunities for success. Please encourage your student to do his or her very best on the tests. With MAP tests, we can administer shorter tests and use less class time while still receiving detailed, accurate information about your child's growth, which will then be used to help plan instruction and determine if supplemental academic support may benefit your child.
You will receive a report showing your child's performance through the mail. A letter of explanation will accompany your child's results. If at any time you have questions regarding the results, please feel free to contact your child's teacher or contact one of us directly. If you have any questions about the spring MAP administration, please contact Aliya Killion at akillion@carrollwooddayschool.org.
We value the benefits of using an assessment tool that focuses on every child's individual growth and achievement. With parents and teachers partnering to help all of our students learn, together we can have a profound positive effect on the lives of our children.
