Dear CDS Families, As we begin the second quarter after a full two months in school, I continue to be incredibly grateful for how our community has pulled together to navigate the challenges of this year. I was recently reading an article where psychologist Corrina Parrish discusses pandemic fatigue. She acknowledges that "it can feel strange to reorganize your life around a risk that doesn't seem real," but with everything we have at stake--the health and safety of our extended Patriot Nation as well as the opportunity to continue staying open and running as much of our program as safely possible for our CDS kids--the effort is more than worth it. With that in mind, I'd like to remind all of our families that our school contact tracing and notification systems are only as good as the information we receive. I know in the face of a diagnosis in your household, your first thought might not be to call school as you deal with your family and work fall out. It might also seem hard to be the person responsible for initiating the process that could result in quarantine for a number of other students. I understand how complicated all of our decisions are right now. But as a reminder, your responsibility is to notify the school as soon as possible after receiving a diagnosis for anyone in your household or if you are notified that your student might be a close contact of another person from outside CDS who has tested positive. This is in addition to any requirements as defined by your doctor or pediatrician. The quarantines that might result are not punitive but precautionary, meant to guarantee that one exposure will not spiral outward to affect more people and families or the successful operation of our school program. And with our flexible ALP option for students who need to stay at home, no student in quarantine has to lose academic momentum by missing class.
Barring major changes in the virus landscape, through our continued vigilance and shared community commitment to health and safety, I am confident we can enjoy an uninterrupted school year. Our Health & Safety Team continues to meet to discuss ideas and challenges. We actively monitor community conditions and recommendations, making changes in our processes and protocols as the situation evolves, including researching new resources for testing and response as they become available.
With gratitude,
