Welcome!
Dear Families,
Welcome to the CDS Lower Division Adaptable Learning Plan (ALP)! We are very proud of our ALP and know that you have questions regarding how the plan will be implemented. We have spent countless hours devising a program that we feel will provide the highest quality distance learning possible for our younger students. As you are aware, the best instruction happens in the classroom, but our ALP instructors have designed the next best approach.
Before school begins, each student will be placed in his/her on-campus homeroom. We will send all of our students invitations to meet his/her homeroom teacher during the scheduled Teacher Interviews (either August 10th or 11th). Your student will be invited to an on-campus visit or your homeroom teacher will be happy to Zoom with your child. All of the textbooks and necessary materials will be available for pick up at that time. If you elect for your child to meet his/her teacher on Zoom, you are asked to make arrangements to pick up the materials during the week of August 10, 2020.
The ALP will begin on Monday, August 17, 2020 at 8:00am. The students will be Zoomed into their homerooms to join Morning Meeting and see their friends. At 8:30am, they will join their ALP cohorts for instruction from one of our ALP instructors. The full group session will be followed by small group instruction. This will be the routine for both math and reading instruction. Writing, PYP, and specials will be scheduled throughout the week.
Your child will be able to return to "on-campus" learning with his/her homeroom at any time. We will need a few school days to notify the classroom teacher and make sure we have your child ready for a smooth transition. The ALP instructors will be working closely with the classroom teachers to maintain a similar schedule as in-school instruction. We want the children to be ready for a successful re-entry into classroom.
We hope that this newsletter will provide you with information to help your child get ready for ALP success. Please keep in mind that early childhood and elementary students will need parental support. Young children have not developed the necessary skills to work independently for long periods of time. We ask for your support because, as always, we are partners in your child's education whether your child is in school or at home.
Please contact us with any further questions and stay safe!
