Seniors End of Year Update
April 2, 2020
Dear Class of 2020 Students and Families,
Carrollwood Day School received further information from the International Baccalaureate Organization related to the process for awarding diplomas and certificates. According to IB, all Internal Assessment (IA) and predicted grades are to be submitted to IB by April 20th regardless of any previous extensions. It remains IB's goal to distribute results by July 6th, 2020.
We want to assure you that our standard schedule of Internal Assessment submissions allows for meeting the April 20th deadline with many of the Internal Assessments already submitted by your students for upload to IB. If your student is currently working on their final draft of an internal assessment in any subject, please encourage them to review the feedback from their teacher and make the necessary changes prior to submitting their final for upload to IB.
Additionally, it is our current practice to conduct a final review of predicted grades by early April for upload to IB. Given the emphasis that predicted grades might now have in the awarding of diplomas or certificates, many teachers will be offering additional summative assessments in April tailored to allow for students to show any additional progress they have made up until this point. Teachers will use all assessment data through April, including the IA scores, to arrive at the most holistic understanding of a student's achievement when providing a predicted grade to IB by the April 20th deadline.
While the May exams have been canceled alleviating some of the stress students would have been under during that period of time, many students are now feeling heightened levels of stress as they prepare their final IAs and review for the subject summative assessments in April.
We know parents and students will have many questions. We are providing the following link for students and parents to submit questions related to IB exams, diplomas, and certificates, senior events, senior workload, etc. Upper school administrators and teachers will be reviewing and responding to questions in a timely fashion.
Thank you and stay well.
