Dear Parents and Students,
What a Spring Break! I am sure you all have been watching the latest news and wondering what will happen in the immediate future in the world, as well as, your own home. Next week will be a new adventure for all of us. On Tuesday, March 24, 2020, we will begin our CDS Distance Learning Plan. A copy of this plan is attached. Over the next few days, please look it over. On Monday, please check Seesaw for a message from your child's teacher. While the school will be closed, we remain committed to do all we can to help support you and your children.
The teachers have been designing rich lesson plans and trying to provide the students with a continuation of the work they were doing before school dismissed for Spring Break. The teachers are already skilled in technology, as well as, most of the programs they will be using. Of course, the information you receive from your toddler's teacher will look quite different from the lesson plans provided by elementary teachers. For all children, we want to keep a schedule. Children need consistency whether attending school at home or on campus. Each teacher will provide you with a daily schedule through Seesaw. They will send lesson plans, videos, activities, and up to date messages. All teachers will conference at least once a week individually with you or your child. Teachers will hold office hours daily from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. If a message is sent after office hours, the message will be returned within 24 hours.
This is a new experience for all of us. As prepared as we feel we are, there will undoubtedly be glitches and even a few failures. We have a vast array of resources that we can substitute if something doesn't work. I'm sure there will be programs you are unfamiliar with. Rest assured; your child probably knows how to use the technology. If you have questions, please contact the appropriate staff member. If you aren't sure whom to contact, please email Mrs. Boodoo, Mrs. Hendershot, or myself. We will direct you to the appropriate person. Mrs. Boodoo, Mrs. Hendershot and I will provide you with a weekly update where we share any recent news along with a read-aloud, jokes, activities, etc. We welcome photos of you and your students sharing engaging activities at home. We want the students to feel connected to their school family. If we can figure out a way to do a virtual Morning Opening, we will.
One last thing, as important as your child's education is, we recognize that their social emotional well-being is even more important. We have linked many sites to our long distance plan that address anxiety and how to discuss these uncharted times with your child. Our school counselor, Mrs. Molano will be available for remote conferencing or emailing. She is happy to speak with you. Of course, your child's classroom teacher is always available. We want all of our students to come out of this pandemic healthy and emotionally strong.
Try to enjoy the rest of your vacation and get ready for our new adventure!
Sincerely,
Trudi Buscemi
