College Case Studies Program
What if a college admission counselor could take you behind the scenes to how institutions review applications? That is exactly what parents and students will be able to experience at CDS's second annual College Case Studies Program. This is a unique opportunity for CDS parents and students to understand why applicants are accepted, denied, and waitlisted in the evaluation process. Most public and private secondary schools limit case study participation to solely include junior parents and students, but CDS is opening the program up to families in grades 8 through 11. This will be an interactive event: families will work in small groups directly with an admission representative and make decisions on sample applications. Representatives from Florida State University, The Ohio State University, Butler University, Southern Methodist University, Michigan State University and Xavier University (OH), will walk families through mock applications and provide insight as to how admission decisions are made in a committee review process. Families will learn first-hand how factors such as transcript evaluation, college essays, institutional interests, letters of recommendation, and test scores impact decisions in this hands-on format. There will also be an opportunity for Q&A with admission representatives at the conclusion of the event and representatives will also be available to address individual questions with families about their school and the admission process in general. All the counselors in attendance directly review each applicant from CDS for their school, so this is an excellent to build a relationship! You will not want to miss this valuable opportunity!
