BECAUSE OF SAM

Because of Sam

CDS is pleased to host a special screening of the documentary Because of Sam for all middle school and upper school students on Monday, September 9. Because of Sam is a documentary film about Sam Piazza, proud CDS alumnus and son of CDS kindergarten teacher Ruth Piazza. Sam is a young man with Down syndrome who overcomes bullying, wins Homecoming King at Gaither High School, and is an advocate for people with disabilities. Sam works at PDQ Carrollwood (Tampa) and volunteers for many worthy causes. Click here to view a preview of Because of Sam.

Following the movie, there will be a Q&A time with Sam and filmmaker, Renee Warmack.

This unique opportunity supports Carrollwood Day School’s diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.

PRINTED STUDENT DIRECTORY COMING SOON

Emergency Alerts

All parents are asked to check your family account on My BackPack to be sure all of your personal contact information is correct.  This information is used to generate school email distribution lists, online and printed student directories, and to contact parents through the school emergency alert system.  The deadline for corrections to be included in the printed Student Directory is Monday, September 9, 2019.

A printed student directory will be published later this month. Because over the years we have found that many upper school students do not bring these directories home, we are asking parents who have students in upper school only to let us know if they would like to have a copy of the printed directory.

JUNIOR & SENIORS: USF LIBRARY TRAINING

 USF Library

Researching at USF
Saturday, November 2, 2019
10:00 am -12:00 pm

The development of research skills is given a central place in the Diploma Programme, as can be seen, for example, through the importance placed on the extended essay. Training in both information-literacy and media-literacy skills is vital for every student.

USF Library is no longer hosting visits from high school IB classes. This year, USF Librarians will hold  a special training day for IB students. Librarians will explain how to search the USF library catalog and databases.

Use this link to sign-up, reservations are required.
Questions? See Mrs. Hsu for any additional information or tips on how to be well prepared for the day.

UPPER SCHOOL ABSENCES AND TARDIES

Policy for reporting an US student absence

Parents should notify the school by 8:30 a.m. at the following email address to report their child's absence.  We suggest that parents add this email to their "contacts" for quick access.

USAbsence@CarrollwoodDaySchool.org

Your message will be retrieved by the upper school secretary. If a student is not reported absent at the email above, an email notification of the absence is sent to the parent requesting a response confirming the absence.

Please note that attendance is recorded each day by the first period teacher at 8:30 a.m. Students who arrive late to school must check-in at the Welcome Center in the main lobby to obtain a tardy pass.

SAVE THE DATES!

There is a new twist to the Dads and Moms Breakfasts this years! They are being combined into Parents Breakfasts. In October, there will be one for 9th and 10th grade students and their parents and in February there will be a Parents Breakfast for 11th and 12th grades!
