CDS is pleased to host a special screening of the documentary Because of Sam for all middle school and upper school students on Monday, September 9. Because of Sam is a documentary film about Sam Piazza, proud CDS alumnus and son of CDS kindergarten teacher Ruth Piazza. Sam is a young man with Down syndrome who overcomes bullying, wins Homecoming King at Gaither High School, and is an advocate for people with disabilities. Sam works at PDQ Carrollwood (Tampa) and volunteers for many worthy causes. Click here to view a preview of Because of Sam.
Following the movie, there will be a Q&A time with Sam and filmmaker, Renee Warmack.
This unique opportunity supports Carrollwood Day School’s diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.

SEL: Social and Emotional Learning
CDS counselors, Krista Diamond (US), Abby Johnson (MS), and Malu Molano (LS), will share how CDS strengthens students’ social and emotional skills to positively impact their academic performance and their success in life... and how parents can help.
A printed student directory will be distributed to all middle school families later this month. All parents are asked to check your family account on My BackPack to be sure all of your personal contact information is correct. This information is used to generate school email distribution lists, online and printed student directories, and to contact parents through the school emergency alert system. The deadline for corrections to be included in the printed Student Directory is Monday, September 9, 2019.
