HOLI CELEBRATION

Holi Celebration
Friday, April 12

 Happy Holi

Holi is the Festival of Colors and is a national holiday in India that is celebrated communally as a country as well as by Indians all over the world. It marks the end of winter and the beginning of spring. The vibrant colors are symbolic of positive feelings and the festivities are meant to promote unity as Indians celebrate the triumph of good over evil. It is  a time when people should forget past errors and forgive their friends and family.

The Upper School Indian Culture Club is proud to bring Holi to CDS! On Friday afternoon, April 12th, the Indian Culture Club will host a Holi celebration open to all upper school students. Along with the Holi celebration, the ICC will also hold a Henna Party.  Henna designs will cost from $3 to $7 depending on the size of the design.

There are a few guidelines that students must follow to participate in the event.

  • Students are allowed to wear old CDS-appropriate clothes and flip flops to school
  • Students are not allowed to re-enter any school buildings after they play Holi
  • Friendly tip: Bring a towel to clean up with before getting into your car (or your friend's car - or your parent's car!)

The color that will be used for the event is biodegradable, skin safe, non-toxic, and environmentally friendly. However, if you have any concerns about rashes and allergies, we strongly encourage your child not to participate.

Questions? Please contact Ms. Kiran Vaswani-Sippy.

    APPROACHES TO LEARNING

The April 4th Upper School Parent Coffee focused on the IB Approaches to Learning (ATL).

Through approaches to learning, students develop skills that have relevance across the curriculum that help them “learn how to learn”. Approaches to learning skills can be learned and taught, improved with practice and developed incrementally. They provide a solid foundation for learning independently and with others. ATL skills help students prepare for, and demonstrate learning through, meaningful assessment. They provide a common language that students and teachers can use to reflect on and articulate on the process of learning.

Attached is the copy of the presentation from that coffee which provides more information about this important skills that are central to all levels of IB.
