Friday, February 15 is a professional day; there is no school for all students and this is the second Conference Day for grades 9 - 12. Teachers are again using an Internet based appointment-booking system to coordinate all meeting times for these conferences. This minimizes wait times for parents and helps teachers be prepared for each conference. If all spots for a teacher are filled, please reach out to that teacher directly and he/she will find an alternate time for a conference.

These conferences are voluntary. Students are always welcome to attend these conferences and their presence can greatly enhance their effectiveness. You can sign up here for time with your child's teachers.

COLLEGE COUNSELING - 10TH GRADE NEWS
Class of 2021

10th GRADE COLLEGE INFORMATION NIGHT
March 4, 2019 | 6:45pm | CDS Theatre
Students and Parents to attend

The first two developmental years (grades 9 and 10) focus on college counseling related issues and information. From curriculum choice/development to strategic extra-curricular engagement to visiting school to understanding the nomenclature of a wide variety of college and university settings, CDS’s college counseling staff will prepare students to understand each individual’s “in and out of school” achievement portfolio versus what is required to gain admission at a wide variety of colleges throughout the United States and abroad.

Topics to be covered pertinent to 10th grade students and parents will be:

  1. How do colleges review applicants from CDS?
  2. Standardized testing…. Who, what, when, where, why, and how do you prepare?
  3. Deconstructing and understanding one’s weighted and unweighted GPA
  4. What is it that colleges are seeking in terms of inside / outside classroom achievements?
  5. How do you determine what is considered a “good” college?
  6. The “college visit” …When do we begin to visit and how do we organize?
  7. Who sends what information where in the college application process? (What is the student responsible for and what is college counseling responsible for?)

Want to get a jump-start on scheduling individual 10th Grade Student/Parent Meetings?

The College Counseling Department has concluded mandatory individual meetings with 11th grade students and families and is ready to get a head start on mandatory sophomore meetings beginning February 1, 2019 through April 5, 2019. The meeting will include one, if not both, parents and student.

These customized meetings will include an assessment of current academic achievement, IB DP course selection, tips for college exploration, and what is required to gain admission at a wide variety of colleges throughout the United States and abroad, and creating an individual strategic plan for college admission.

Please email your assigned college counselor to schedule your appointment:
