Finish your week off fabulously!
Next week our middle school students will take part in a training offered by Price Waterhouse Coopers (PwC) called Blind Spots. The Blind Spots program focuses on teaching students about their unconscious biases so they can "make decisions and take actions that are more aligned with our declared beliefs." This training will be offered through our PE program and will be followed up with a parallel teacher program in February. For more information on Blind Spots, you may check out their website.
PwC has asked to take photographs of the training with our students, so we will follow all family requests for Do Not Publish requests as indicated for CDS unless we are otherwise notified. If you prefer your child not be photographed for this event, please email Dr. Agliata. We would also like to thank Ms. Tanya Cross-Kimble for helping to organize this opportunity for our students.
Mister Fred Rogers left us with many invaluable lessons we can pass on to our children and continue to learn as parents.
Join us for an amazing look at the life, lessons, and legacy of this beloved American icon. A portrait of a man whom we all think we know, this emotional and moving film takes us beyond the zip-up cardigans and the land of make-believe, and into the heart of a creative genius who inspired generations of children with compassion and limitless imagination.

Human Growth and Development Program
Grades 6 - 8
Friday January 18th
All middle school students, permitted to participate, will attend a class on Human Growth and Development at Carrollwood Day School on January 18th 2019. Health educators from St. Joseph’s Children’s Advocacy Center will teach these classes. Each grade level will be provided age appropriate information on physical and emotional changes during adolescence. Permission to participate in this program was included on the consolidated middle school field trip and activity permission forms that were collected at the beginning of the school year.
These sessions are for students only. CDS teachers will be present at all sessions. These programs are intended to enhance the role parents and guardians have in teaching and guiding children by providing students with a factual understanding of their own sexuality in a time when sexual matters are dealt with very openly in our society. Parents are encouraged to share with children their own family’s moral and religious values. The school program will not assume to go beyond giving factual information within generally accepted societal values.

Shakespeare Festival
Friday, February 14, 2019
8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
DISMISSAL IS AT 1:00 PM FOR MS ONLY
Shakespeare Festival is a long-standing tradition at CDS. The entire middle school studies one of Shakespeare's plays. The students conceive, write, direct, and produce their own class plays using contemporary settings and contemporary types of genre to emulate Shakespeare's plot lines.
All middle school students should come dressed in Renaissance attire. The costumes do not have to be elaborate. Boys can wear their pants pushed to the knee with a large shirt and a belt. Girls can wear a long skirt and a vest. If you need costume ideas please see this link for suggestions. Click here for additional wardrobe ideas.
MS students will be dismissed at 1:00 pm following the Grand Feast. There will not be an early bus for middle school students on this day. A supervised study hall will be available for MS students who are not able to be picked up early.
More information about parent volunteer opportunities and the schedule for the day will be forthcoming.
