Combining the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology, FIRST Robotics Competitions are the ultimate Sport for the Mind. Carrollwood Day School is proud to host the R.O.B.O.T. League Robot Ruckus Championship (League Tournament) on Saturday, January 19, 2019. We are in need of ten adult volunteers to help with this event. Technical expertise is not needed, there are volunteer roles suited to everyone's interest. Background checks are required so interested volunteers are encouraged to sign up early. During the week of December 17 - 20, the CDS Gala Committee is challenging our families to donate as many Health and Beauty Gift Cards as possible to be used in various baskets to be auctioned at our 25th Annual Red Carpet Gala – Studio 54 on March 8, 2019. Carrollwood Day School is partnering with Rustic Pathways to offer this 8-day once in a lifetime adventure for students in the Classes of 2020 and 2021. (Next year's 11th & 12th grade students.) We are only able to accommodate a maximum of 20 students so register now to reserve your spot!
La Niña Andina will give students the opportunity to delve into the issues surrounding gender inequality in Peruvian education. They will explore and discuss the realities of access and obstacles to education with local students and participate in meaningful service projects with the Sacred Valley Project.
In addition to service projects, students will take in the grandeur of the Andean peaks, explore the bustling Incan capital of Cusco, and hike the ancient Incan ruins of Machu Picchu!
The final day to register is January 18th, 2019.

Join us for an amazing look at the life, lessons, and legacy of this beloved American icon. 11th Grade Student/Parent Meetings
The College Counseling Department will conduct mandatory junior meetings between January 9 - 25, 2019 only. The meeting will include one, if not both, parents and student.
These customized meetings will cover the individual student’s college selection and application process to include an assessment of current academic achievement, testing timeline, and creation of initial college application list.

COLLEGE COUNSELING CLASS FOR JUNIORS
College counselors will meet with 11th grade students for 35-minute classes during advisory time on Tuesdays during 2nd semester in January and March - May.
Class topics and assignments will include creating college application lists, crafting resumes, completing college applications, writing college essays, and practicing interview techniques.

Sara Rubinstein, Head of Upper School, invites parents to attend the next US Parents' Coffee. These get togethers feature a discussion on a topic of particular interest to parents.
The topic for the January coffee is Curriculum Matters: Registration Choices for the Upcoming Year. IB Coordinators, Sabrina McCartney and Nancy Hsu, will present curriculum offerings for each grade level and why choices matter for college placement. Shelly Hollingsworth will also provide information about the IB Career Programme which will be available to 11th graders for the first time next year. Additionally, the process for registering for upper school courses will be explained.
The last two coffees for this year will be held on:
March 14, and April 4. Check the school calendar for information about each of these programs.
Wednesday, January 16
All upper school students in grades 9, 10, and 11 should wear their regular school uniform to school. Students will need to wear their collared CDS uniform polo for their class picture - NO SWEATSHIRTS or athletic apparel, please.
Seniors have a special dress day for their pictures. They are not required to wear their uniform to school on Wednesday. Seniors may wear CDS-appropriate business casual dress for their class photo.
Make Up Pictures
Students who have not had their individual pictures taken will have the opportunity to have their school picture taken on Tuesday, January 15 in the Elementary Multi-Purpose Room.
