Tuesday, September 11

Sara Rubinstein, Head of the Upper School, will host a series of morning coffees this year for all upper school parents. 8th grade parents are invited to attend these bi-monthly get togethers that feature a discussion on a topic of particular interest to parents. Parents’ Coffee Mornings are generally on Thursday mornings at 8:30 a.m.

Additional coffees will be held on:
November 1, January 17, March 14, and April 4. Check the school calendar for the topics for each of these programs.

AFTER SCHOOL@CDS

Middle School and Upper School students are welcome to remain on campus after dismissal. The administration has established after school policies to enable students to remain on campus after school and attend home athletic games in the Hayes Family Gymnasium and Wagner Athletic Complex.  No student will be allowed to "hang out" on campus unsupervised after dismissal. Students who are not participating in an athletic team practice session are not allowed to be in the gymnasium or fitness center after school. These facilities are fully booked by the athletic teams.

MS/US Study Hall

By 3:45 p.m. all students must be in an extracurricular activity (working with a teacher, attending an after school program, athletic team practice, drama/music rehearsal, etc.) or report to the supervised MS/US study hall that will be held in the US Humanities Quad (Rooms H129 and H130). Teachers staffing study hall this year are Mr. Jannereth, Ms. Flansburg, and Ms. O'Neill.

  • There is no charge for students to attend the MS/US After School Study Hall.
  • Normal study hall hours are 3:45 pm - 6:00 pm every school day.
  • All students reporting to MS/US study hall must sign in and sign out.
    • Students will be allowed to sign themselves out of study hall when their ride home arrives or to go to a sports event; parents will not need to come in to sign out their child. Parents should call or text students once they have arrived on campus. Some cell service does not work inside the school building; if you are unable to contact your child directly, parents should call the school (813.920.2288) and the Welcome Center will notify the study hall supervisor to dismiss your child.
    • Once a child is signed out of study hall, he/she will not be allowed to return. Once children are signed out of study hall, they will no longer be supervised by CDS faculty.
  • The expectation is for a "quiet" study hall, but the teacher supervising may allow exceptions for groups working together on school projects or assignments.
  • Study hall classrooms must be left as clean as found.
  • All school rules/policies apply during study hall hours. Behavior issues will be reported to the parent. Repeated behavior issues will be referred to the appropriate Assistant Division Head.

Questions? Please contact Mr. Jannereth, MS/US After School Study Hall Coordinator.

Learning does not stop at the end of the school day.  Students can choose from a variety of after-school programs designed to create enthusiasm for learning while building creativity, imagination and positive social skills. These programs are offered by CDS staff and other professionals who want to share their talent and passion for their field.
Middle school students can choose to participate in After School Art, Equestrian Club, Homework Lab, and Music & More!
AfterCare
Middle school students are still welcome to attend the AfterCare program that is held in the Elementary Multi-Purpose Room. Parents must have a KidCheck account for all students who attend the AfterCare program in the Elementary Multi-Purpose Room. An hourly fee is charged for this use of this program.
KidCheck®
CDS uses KidCheck® to provide an online check in/check out system for the safety and tracking of our children. Each family that intends to utilize the before care or after care program must create an account prior to the first day of attendance. If you used KidCheck last year, your account is still active.

MIDDLE SCHOOL ABSENCES AND TARDIES

Policy for reporting a MS student absence

Parents should notify the school by 8:00 a.m. at the following email address to report their child's absence.  We suggest that parents add this email to their "contacts" for quick access.

MSAbsence@CarrollwoodDaySchool.org

Your message will be retrieved by the middle school secretary. If a student is not reported absent at the email above, an email notification of the absence is sent to the parent requesting a response confirming the absence.

Please note that attendance is recorded each day by the first period teacher at 8:00 a.m. Students who arrive to school after 8:10 a.m. must check-in with the receptionist at the front desk in the main lobby to obtain a tardy pass.
