The Robots are coming! The Robots are Here!
Fifth grade teacher, Barbie Monty recently was awards a FLIBS 2018 Excellence Grant. Here is a portion of Mrs. Monty's application explaining her "excellence" idea:
"Introducing Sphero SPRK Edu Robotics into my classroom will open my students to the wonderful world of coding. Utilizing Sphero SPRK Edu Robotics in the classroom will be an excellent way of teaching robotics and the basic fundamentals of programming while igniting creativity in my students. In the wise words of Maria Klawe, “Coding is today’s language of creativity. All our children deserve a chance to become creators instead of consumers of computer science.” Sphero SPRK Robots will enable my students to do just that - CREATE! Sphero Robots can be incorporated into existing lessons or weekly challenges can be crafted to integrate STEM, STEAM, coding, and programming in my classroom. Sphero SPRK Edu Robotics will engage students in collaboration with their classmates as well as offer opportunities to collaborate with students around the globe. The possibilities are simply endless with the capabilities of Sphero SPRK Edu Robotics in the classroom."
Winning this grant allowed Mrs. Monty to purchase a set of 12 robots for her classroom. The Sphero SPRK Robots arrived this week and everyone is eager to begin their exciting journey into the incredible world of coding and programming awaits them!
