Learning Specialists

• Assist with various assessments, model accommodations and differentiation strategies.
• Lend regular support, guidance, and expertise inside and/or outside the classroom for students who have accommodation plans as needed.
• Provide academic and behavioral support inside the classroom for students as needed
• Provide observations of students for documentation purposes, and to provide next steps.
• Serve as a liaison for teachers and parents by developing/updating accommodation plans, serving on the Student Success Team, and attending conferences as needed.
• Plan, partner and work closely with teachers to discuss and help implement accommodations, and best practice methodologies.

Examples of ways Learning Specialists provide support:

• Gather input and create formalized Accommodation Plans to support learners with a disability or diagnosis. 
• Lead Accommodation Plan Determination Meetings, Transition Meetings and Accommodation Reviews
• Create a schedule that meets learner and teacher needs
• Model for the teacher how to implement differentiation techniques for students. 
• Meet regularly with parents, conference with administration, and staff for coordination 
• Establish systems/ protocols for the Student Success Team 
• Synthesize the information from various psychological reports and administer screenings as needed. 
• Facilitate the MTSS system for teachers and staff to coordinate efforts for students who may benefit from additional learning or behavioral support needs with the help of the Student Success Team. 
• Disseminate current information about best practices for students with learning differences and neurodivergence.
• Coordinate testing accommodations and provide that information to all teachers.
• Share student's needs and accommodation plans with their individual teachers. 
• Assist students needing support with study skills, time management, organizational skills and other executive functioning challenges as needed. 

• The primary interventionist for all students who have behavioral or learning challenges including those with accommodation plans. 

• A replacement of high quality best practice methodologies in the classroom . 

• The primary assessment administrator.
