New Head of Middle School Named

CDS welcomes Chuck Maddox

Head of School Sara Rubinstein is pleased to announce that Charles Maddox has accepted Carrollwood Day School's offer to become the next Head of the Middle School. He will begin his new position on July 1, 2021. Chuck Maddox will be coming to CDS from The Benjamin School in North Palm Beach, FL where he has been the Middle School Academic Dean and a classroom Spanish teacher since 2014.

Sara Rubinstein is "thrilled to welcome Chuck Maddox to the CDS team. From our first interview, Chuck was a stand out -- knowledgeable, passionate about kids and education, and creative in his approach to school administration. I look forward to working with him as we continue to solidify our place as the destination school in Tampa Bay for a relevant and authentic independent education."

Maddox went into education inspired by his own teachers who "taught with their whole hearts each day." He soon realized that teaching is one of the hardest, yet most rewarding jobs there is. He strives each day to positively impact students and teachers guided by these four belief statements:

  1. Provide a 21st-century education centered around critical and innovative thinking.
  2. A well-rounded classroom purposefully integrates technology into each lesson.
  3. Students learn best in a positive and supportive learning environment where they are not afraid to explore their personal perspectives, their learning styles, and their interactions with others.
  4. Blend classroom instruction and character education.

With these core beliefs as his compass, Maddox has the mindset needed to lead CDS Middle School to new heights; assuring the new middle school classrooms and Center for Innovation will become a forward-thinking source of learning and inspiration for students and faculty while upholding the values important to our school.
