The Student Council has been involved in the life of the middle school since the beginning of the year. They always take the lead on the weekly morning openings as well as plan and lead the spirit days (spirit week) and school dances. When everyone got the word that we would be staying at home for distance learning, the Council wanted to keep school life as consistent as possible, so they came up with the idea of that “Friday Feeling.” These weekly video productions replicate the MS morning openings with news, sports, and a variety of things that our students are doing and creating. They also include items each week that are sent in by others. Mr. Steve Spaulding has been a great help in organizing and helping the students put together the kind of program they planned.

The Student Council is launching two new projects to promote school spirit and keep connections strong for the end of the year. They have put the word out for other MS students to send in videos of their talent for a virtual talent show. Once enough videos come in, they will be posted to be judged and the winner will receive an Amazon gift card. Additionally, there is a virtual dance in the works and will be called “Night Under Neon Lights.”

Each of the council members are strong leaders and have some great insight and input when it comes to the planning and implementation of the activities. The 8th grade leaders are looking forward to becoming involved in new activities and programs in upper school and the opportunity to take on new leadership roles.
