CDS Teachers Teaching Teachers

Five CDS teachers have been invited to share their expertise and innovative ideas at two statewide professional development programs.

CDS administrators and teachers will join colleagues from private schools from across Florida in Orlando at the FCIS Annual Convention 2019 in November and at the Early Childhood Institute in February 2020. This year, five CDS teachers have been invited to showcase their expertise and innovative ideas at these statewide professional development programs. CDS administrators and faculty are recognized as leaders in their fields. In addition to being invited to present at professional conferences and at other schools, CDS administrators and faculty members are also FCIS and IB site evaluators, IB trainers, and DP examiners, providing leadership to other schools and teachers across North America.

Barbie Monty [5th Grade teacher] and Jennifer Stanley [US Humanities teacher] will present sessions at the FCIS Annual Convention and Stephanie Piazza [Toddler teacher], Caroline Messmer [PreK-3 teacher], and Kati Jones [PreK-4 teacher] will present at the FCIS Early Childhood Institute.

FCIS (Florida Council of Independent Schools) establishes high standards for nonpublic schools in our state and evaluates and accredits independent schools throughout Florida. As one of the nation’s largest organizations of independent schools, it represents over 73,000 students in 158 member schools.

Student-Paced or Teacher-Led: NearPod to the Rescue!

NearPod provides an opportunity to create lessons with on-the-spot feedback for formative assessments. This tool allows students to add their own content during whole group instruction and encourages cooperative learning during breakout sessions. With a variety of media available on the platform, teachers can engage a range of individual learning styles and differentiate lessons. Having the capability to be either student-paced or teacher-led, lessons can flip the classroom and provide valuable study tools.
