CDS students lend their talents

CDS seniors, Chloe M. and Chloe W., are helping Faces of Courage create videos to provide entertainment for families touched by cancer.

As part of her role at CDS, Upper School Learning Specialist, Shelly Hollingsworth, helps non-profits, community organizations, and CDS students figure out how to connect to achieve goals. One of those amazing community, non-profit organizations she is connected to is Faces of Courage. Faces of Courage provides day outings and overnight camps for adults, children, and families touched by all types of cancer and blood disorders. All programs are made available to the participants and their families at no cost. The organization primarily focuses on creating a fun, relaxed environment for women, men, and children with cancer and other blood illnesses. Each camp and/or program aims to create an environment free of judgment for campers to take a break from the everyday stresses of overcoming their illnesses.

When CEO/Founder of the non-profit organization, Peggie Sherry, realized she wasn't going to be able to offer summer camps to her campers due to the threat to their health, she was determined  to find another way. That way turned out to be offering videos to upload to the organization's YouTube channel for the campers to enjoy. With their experience in the CDS AV League, Shelly Hollingsworth knew just who to reach out to....rising seniors, Chloe M. and Chloe W.

Since late May, both Chloe's have been manning and organizing the Faces of Courage YouTube channel. This includes editing the videos, creating graphics (thumbnails, openings, etc.), and making the channel and all its content entertaining and appealing to the campers. The girls have done such an amazing job that when Faces of Courage camps start up again in person, Ms. Sherry has asked them to help document the camps and create more videos to promote the organization.

CDS is so proud of Chloe M. and Chloe W. for taking their in-school skills and applying them in the real world, as well as being motivated to help a wonderful organization. Well done girls. You are making our #PatriotNation proud.

Thank you to CDS rising seniors Chloe M. and Chloe W. for contributing to this article and to Upper School Learning Specialist, Shelly Hollingsworth for creating the connection.
