Trudi Buscemi graduated from Arizona State University with a degree in elementary education. She received her Masters degree in Reading Education from the University of South Florida. She has taught PreK-3 through junior college. She has been a Reading Specialist in both Lee and Pinellas counties. As director of the Title I Reading Clinic in Lee County she diagnosed students for reading and learning disabilities.
Ms. Buscemi came to CDS as a mom in 1982. A few years later, she joined the faculty as a PreK-3 teacher followed by several years teaching 1st grade, 4th grade, and middle school English. In 1986, she became the CDS elementary principal. For 15 years, she was also the middle school principal. Currently, she serves as the Lower School Head, which includes students ages 2 through 5th grade.
As a member of the National Association of Elementary Principals. National Association of the Education of Young Children, and the Association of Supervision and Curriculum, Ms. Buscemi has participated in countless trainings and workshops. Her proudest achievements have been in the work of character education. Ms. Buscemi has presented at several local, state, and national conferences sharing Carrollwood Day School’s character education journey.
When not working, Ms. Buscemi loves to make crafts, read, and spend time with her four grandchildren.
