Middle School Faculty Update
This is the first article in a series introducing new CDS faculty, administrators, and staff members for the 2017-2018 school year. Dr. Agliata is pleased to welcome three teachers to the middle school faculty next year.
8th Grade Math
"Tell me, I'll forget. Show me, I may remember. Involve me, I'll understand."
Tom Bronson has been teaching for nearly a quarter of a century and, in that time, has taught music, drama, science, English, and multiple levels of math. He has presented on the state and national levels for mathematics, technology, and general middle level education. In addition, he is a workshop leader, consultant, and site visitor for the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme. Mr. Bronson earned his B.A. in mathematics and Gifted Education Endorsement from University of South Florida.
When not teaching, Tom likes to sing, act, play trombone, and find any opportunity for new adventures with his son.
6th Grade Math
Sapna Patel has been a middle school math/science teacher for more than ten years. Prior to teaching, she was a formulations scientist working with DuPont Pharmaceuticals. During her teaching career, she has taught all 6-8 science courses and math including algebra 1. She received recognition for having 100% of her students pass Algebra 1 EOC 7 years in a row and was a finalist for teacher of the year at Imagine Schools. She was a founding member of the NJHS for students academic and service growth.

Mrs. Patel has two daughters and one son, two of which are in middle school and the other a senior in high school. On the weekends she loves to spend time with her family playing board games, cooking, and watching movies. She was born in the United Kingdom and moved to the United States as a 7th grader and understand the difficulties of adjusting to a new place and school. She attended the University of South Florida and earned a B.S. in Chemistry. After her children became of school age, she completed her education degree to become a part of the world in which they are immersed.
8th Grade Individuals and Societies
Jennifer Stanley received a B.A. in History and B.S. in Psychology from Fayetteville State University in North Carolina and a M.S. in Exercise Science, Post Graduate Certificate in Rehabilitative Science, as well as, an M.S. in Sports Management from California University of Pennsylvania. She will be joining Carrollwood Day School as the 8th grade history teacher for the 2017-2018 academic year.
Mrs. Stanley has previously taught US History, Psychology, AP Psychology, Health, and Physical Education at Wiregrass Ranch High School and Pasco County eSchool as well as US Government, Psychology and AP Psychology at Fayetteville Academy, an independent school in North Carolina. While with Pasco County School District, she served as a Professional Learning Community facilitator, Social Studies Department Chair, and chartered Pasco eSchool’s National Honor Society. At Fayetteville Academy, she served as the head coach for the cross country team finishing 4th at the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association (NCISAA) state championships. She also coached Track & Field, finishing 2nd at the NCISAA state championships and being name Cape Fear Independent Conference coach of the year.
Prior to teaching in the classroom, Mrs. Stanley worked in corporate financial services, marketing and sales, and corporate training for Electro Rent Corporation in both Los Angeles, CA and Atlanta, GA.
Jennifer was born in Houston, Texas and grew up in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. She moved to Los Angeles, CA her senior year in high school and remained for 10 years. She has also lived Atlanta, Georgia for four years and Fayetteville, North Carolina for nine years prior to moving to Wesley Chapel in 2013 with her family. She is married to a retiring Army soldier and together they have 2 daughters, Caitlin (12) and Elizabeth (10), who play competitive softball and will also be joining the Carrollwood Day School family in the fall. Outside of her family, Jennifer’s other interests include cycling, watching documentaries on history and psychology, and following the writings of Angela Duckworth on grit and perseverance as well as Carol Dweck on growth mindset and the theories of intelligence.
Middle School Faculty Changes
Several middle school teachers are taking on new responsibilities and roles at CDS in 2017-2018.
- Casey Higgins has been named Assistant Athletic Director and will no longer teach PE in the middle school.
- Julie Nohra and Alysa Gomez will teach PE for the middle school next year.
- Tonia Jenkins will teach 7th grade mathematics.
