Building Global Relationships
Carrollwood Day School is preparing to welcome the “Little Diplomat Exchange Program” to our school starting on January 8, 2014 through February 7th. This month long program will welcome 12 young Chinese students, their parents, and several teachers to our school from Beijing, China.
We are excited that these students will have the opportunity to experience Carrollwood Day School and in return our students will learn about the experiences of school children in China. The Chinese students will participate in all of the daily activities of our students. Their teachers are fluent in English and will provide support in our classrooms and can assist as translators as well. As an International Baccalaureate school, we recognize and value the importance of understanding and accepting cultural differences. Being introduced to the Chinese culture first hand from children their own age will be a uniquely meaningful experience for our young students. We live in a global society and as adults it is likely they will be friends or business acquaintances with people from other countries.
We are looking for CDS families who would like to be ambassador families for our Chinese guests. Each ambassador family will be assigned one of our visiting Chinese families. We are looking to our ambassador families to help welcome our guests and introduce them to places to visit and age appropriate activities they may enjoy in our community. You will not be responsible for hosting the visiting family in your home. However, families may want to set up play dates or even share a meal with their partner family from China. We are looking for ambassadors from the following grades:
- 2 – Toddlers
- 2 - Prekindergarten
- 2 – Kindergarten
- 4 - 1st grade
- 2 - 2nd grade
