CDS Prep Principal invited to lead workshop about IB Diploma Programme
The last week of February will find Mary Kanter, CDS Head of School, and
the three principals, Ellen Nafe, Trudi Buscemi, and Ryan Kelly, in San
Francisco attending the 2010 NAIS1
Annual Conference. There they will
join with 3,000 leaders of independent schools to learn, collaborate, and grow
the future of independent schools.
Looking back at a year that presented challenges of extreme proportions,
NAIS chose the theme of comic book superheroes for their conference this year.
Attendees will be both challenged and inspired to "unleash the superpowers
within" as they gather to learn how to better ADAAAPT, SURVIVE, and THRIVE.
The conference is packed with featured sessions led by an impressive line
up of internationally recognized experts as well as a selection of intensive
three-hour workshops and more than 125 one-hour workshops. Workshops are
organized by track (communications and advancement, governance, leadership
development, management, and the classroom experience) and also focus on areas
of sustainability for 21st century schools (demographic,
environmental, financial, global, and programmatic).
Ryan Kelly, CDS Prep Principal, will be one of the presenters at the
conference. He has been invited to
lead a one-hour workshop about the IB Diploma along with Paul Campbell, head of regional
development for the IB Americas, and Joseph
Kennedy, Head of School at West Sound Academy (Washington).
The IB Diploma Programme: A Follow-up on Global and Programmatic Sustainability Participants will hear from heads of schools and students offering
both institutional and personal perspectives on the IB Diploma Programme.
Participants will gain an understanding of the IB Diploma, an international
network of school administrators, examples of IB materials for teacher
professional development, and examples of students’ assessments and projects. |
This workshop is part of the “Classroom Experience” track and
supports both Global Sustainability
(“Becoming more networked internationally and less provincial in outlook.”) and
Programmatic Sustainability
(“Becoming more focused on the skills and values the marketplace of the 21st
century will seek and reward – and less narrowly isolated in a traditional
disciplines approach to teaching and learning.”).

1,400 member independent schools in the US. While NAIS’s mission is to be the national voice for
independent schools, it also aspires to be the information and knowledge
organization for independent school education and provides invaluable resources
for independent schools.
