Clubs
CDS Prep ascribes to the requirements of the International Baccalaureate programmes for students to be involved in extra curricular activities. This requirement takes seriously the importance of life outside the world of scholarship and provides a valuable counterbalance to academic studies. The high school schedule includes a daily "flex period" during which clubs can meet. Some of the clubs that have been established include:
Debate Team
Membership: 8th - 12th grade students
Meetings: After school
Advisor: Mr. Kenneth Grodd
CDS Prep introduced Debate Team in 2008. Policy Debate is an
activity centered around the analysis of a significant area of public
policy. The activity is by its nature competitive and involves
competition at tournaments with other schools. Students are exposed to various educational values,
such as research, analysis of information, presentation,
cross-examination, and argumentation. Debate members, in concert with
the moderator and others, will help determine the exact scope of the
program. The CDS Prep Debate Team is a member of the National Forensic League, the National Catholic Forensic League and the Florida Forensic League.
Drama Club
Membership: Any high school student with an interest in theatrical arts
Meetings: During flex periods
Advisor: Ms. Jaime Giangrande-Holcom
In
the spring of 2008, CDS Prep was granted a charter to establish a
thespian troupe through the International Thespian Society. Members of
the new thespian troupe will compete with other Hillsborough public and
private high schools.
Flamenco Dance Club
Membership: Required for current Flamenco students
Former students who would like to perform are also invited to participate
Meetings: During flex periods
Advisor: Mrs. Kelly Benedetti
Participation in the Flamenco Dance Club is required for current dance students. Membership is also open to students who are unable to take the dance course but who want to
continue performing to keep connected to the flamenco they love! Members will practice a growing repertoire of flamenco dance routines. Meeting times will be utilized to continue rehearsals of previously learned dances and for staging upcoming performances. The group will perform several times a year at school performances and in the community.
National Honor Society
Membership: 10th, 11th and 12th grade students who meet selection criteria
Meetings: Twice a month
Advisor: Mrs. Kellie Rodriguez
The purpose of National Honor Society shall be to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, and to develop character in the students of secondary schools. Chapter activities will include routine chapter meetings, participation in a chapter service project and an additional eight individual service hours.
NHS Selection Process
National Spanish Honor Society (Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica)

The high school newspaper, the Crimson Chronicle, is published 3-4 times a school year. It contains articles, book and movie reviews, sports reports, and photography by CDS Prep students and faculty. Four Editor positions are available: Editor-in-Chief, Arts & Entertainment Editor, Prep Life Editor, and Sports Editor. In addition, any number of reporters, writers, and contributors are members of this club.
O Ambassadors
Membership: All high school students
Advisor: Mr. Seth Firestone
The CDS Prep O Ambassadors Club has chosen hunger as a focus for their activities. They plan activities to increase awareness about hunger and raise funds to support development projects overseas, which will help the world achieve this goal. Specifically they have chosen to work on behalf of Free the Children in East Asia.
Student Council
Membership: Students are elected by their classmates to serve on the Student Council
Meetings: During flex periods
Advisor: Mr. Kenneth Grodd and Ms. Julie Hall-Lavorgna
The High School Student Council is a necessary and important component of the school community. The Council represents the official voice of the student body in regard to school policies and activities. The Council meets regularly as a group, and the leadership of the Council meets regularly with the Administration. Elections are held at the beginning of he year. The Council officers are: a President (junior or senior); a Vice-President (junior of senior); and a Secretary/Treasurer (sophomore, junior, or senior). All positions are awarded through election in which all high school students will vote. A second election will decide on 2 at-large class representatives from each class. A new Council is elected each year.
New Clubs
Additional programs will continue to be developed based on student interest.
