2016 - 2017 Athletic Highlights

Hayes Family Gym

CDS athletics experienced its most successful year to date in 2016-2017. Both our teams and our individuals had exceptional years. CDS had one team District Runner up, six team District Championships, two team Regional Finalists, one team Regional Champion, and one State Runner up. We also had three individual District Champions, 30 individual Regional qualifiers, five individual State qualifiers, and one individual State Runner up.

Distinguished Individual Efforts for the Team

Cross Country:

  • Entire boys’ team advanced to Regionals: Russell Duncan (’17), Jacob Flansburg (’18), Reed Ham (’17), Thomas Horsington (’18)(alt), Ben Jones (’19), Ryan Lam (’18), Jack Pironti (’18), Robert Poehlitz (’19), and Avery Pullara (’19)(alt). Rachel Stevenson (’18) advanced for the girls’ team.

Football:

  • Congratulations Ryan Verscharen (’18) and Stephen Walters (’18) for making the Hillsborough County Senior All-Star Football Team. They competed in the All-Star game Saturday, December 3 at Raymond James Stadium. Let's Go Patriots!

Swimming:

  • After Districts the team broke a combined total of six team records. Congratulations to Madison Drablos (’19), Emily Paglicci (’18), Emma Herron (’19), Arabella Huges (’18), and Gabe Slater (’22) who were involved in these record breaking performances. Swimmers advancing to Regionals were Madison Drablos (’19) (individual and relays), Emily Paglicci (’18) (individual and relays), Emma Herron (’19) (individual and relays), Arabella Huges (’18) (relays), Taylor Scott (’21) (relays) and Libby McCaffrey (’21) (relays).

  • Our entire team advanced to Regionals after placing 10th out of 32 at Districts: Gunnar Brynjolfsson (District Champion), Jonathan Conrad (’22) (District, Regional, and State Runner Up), Grayson Fisher (’18) (District Champion, and State Qualifier), Kourosh Rashidian Dezfouli (’20).

State Meet

  • Pole Vault – Hailey Crow ('19) 6th place (2.794M PR & SR)

Tennis:

  • Tyler Frazee (’18) (District Champion in singles and doubles) and Dan Smith (’20) (District Champion in doubles)

Softball

  • Tampa Bay Times All-Tampa Bay Softball Team
    Honorable Mention: Emma Frost ('17)
  • Tampa Bay Times All-Hillsborough County Softball Team
    2nd Team: Emma Frost ('17)
    Honorable Mention: Kylie Coffin ('20) and Sydney Pelaez ('18)

Baseball:

  • Won their pool in the Saladino Tournament, which included wins over Brandon and Plant. They finished 4th overall out of 32 teams. They also won the Sportsmanship award for their play on the field and character during the tournament. All Tournament team: Frank Furey (’18) and Rodrigo Montenegro (’18).

CDS Venue Milestones

Turf Field Debut – September 9, 2016

  • Carrollwood Day School’s Patriot football team played their first home game on campus in the new Wagner Athletic Complex! Tampa Bay Times – Sports  

Hayes Family Gymnasium Initiation to CDS Sports – August 30, 2016

  • Carrollwood Day School celebrated its first JV and varsity volleyball home openers against Canterbury School. Go Patriots!
