The College Preparatory Division of Carrollwood Day School opened in August 2006 with freshman and sophomore classes. The first graduating class will be 2009. CDS Prep follows in the footsteps of the elementary and middles school CDS divisions with implementation of the International Baccalaureate programmes of study. CDS was the first IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) authorized school on Florida’s West Coast. CDS is in the process of becoming an authorized IB Middle Years Program (MYP) school for all students in grades 6 through 10 and is an IB Diploma Programme candidate school for qualified students in grades 11 and 12.

- Classes are on a block schedule
- Classes are on a block schedule where each class meets for 85 minutes on alternating days. Advantages of this system include the fact that students have to prepare for only four subjects per day, teachers have time for more substantive classroom activities and discussions, and less time is wasted passing from class to class.
- The academic year consists of two semesters (18 weeks each).
- Grades are reported every nine weeks.

The first two years of high school culminate with the presentation of a personal project. The personal project is a significant body of work produced over an extended period. It is a product of the student’s own initiative and provides an excellent opportunity for students to produce a truly creative piece of work of their choice and to demonstrate the skills they have developed in approaches to learning.
