History Fair Winners!

Nine Carrollwood Day School high school students and five middle school students won top honors in the Hillsborough County History Fair last month! Most of these students have advanced to compete in the Florida History Day state competition will on May 7 – 9. The state contest is held on the campus of Tallahassee Community College.

The National History Day theme this year is "Taking a Stand in History."  CDS middle school and high school students explored and celebrated a wide range of inspiring people who created lasting legacies by taking a firm position on issues important to them.

All seventh grade students completed projects for an assignment in Mrs. Jennifer Dosher’s IB MYP Year 2 Humanities class. A number of these projects were selected to compete at the Hillsborough County History Fair.  Once chosen to go to the County History Fair, the students worked diligently to make their projects even better.  The eighth grade and high school students that competed at the Hillsborough County History Fair developed their projects independently through a club sponsored by MYP Coordinator and high school history teacher, Ms. Sabrina McCartney.  Competing in the history fair has become a family tradition for Luke, Joshua, and Justin Jackson.  The tradition began when Luke, who is now in 11th grade, was in seventh grade and now that Justin is in seventh grade, this is the first year that all three brothers competed at the county fair.
