It’s a Small World After All

Spring Fling Salutes DisneyThe Mickey Mouse Club came to life on the Carrollwood Day School stage last week! From the opening - the elementary chorus’s invitation to “Be Our Guest” – to the closing - the all-school, tear-jerking rendition of “The Circle of Life” - the annual Spring Fling paid tribute to all things Disney.

For the past few months, every single elementary student in grades one through five has been rehearsing for the big show, memorizing lyrics, practicing choreography and auditioning for solos.  Their hard work paid off in spades, as the standing room only crowd of students, parents and friends enjoyed selections from “Peter Pan,” “Mary Poppins,” “The Jungle Book,” and “The Little Mermaid” (most parents were seen humming or singing along to the classics they enjoyed as children!).  In addition to the singing and dancing, several fifth grade students participated in the recorder and ukulele ensembles.

Following the performance, parents and students toured the classrooms, library and elementary multi-purpose room, where a selection of each child’s artwork was on display.  The pieces were selected from the portfolios the children have been building all year long and included work from a variety of media: sculpting, sketching, watercolors, and oil pencils.

Many thanks to the elementary music and art teachers, Mrs. Holtsclaw and Mrs. Most, as well as middle school music teacher Mrs. Callahan, for the time - both during the school day and after hours - they put into this show.  In addition, this incredibly involved production would not have been possible without the dedication of CDS parents and volunteers, who spent hours ironing Mickey Mouse ears on white t-shirts and mounting and labeling artwork.

Everyone working together for one great event helps us to realize that CDS is its own “small world after all!”
