55 Students Qualify to be Duke TIP Scholars
Fifty-five students at Carrollwood Day School were recently selected to participate in Duke University’s TIP 4th/5th Grade Talent Search. These students qualified for this prestigious program by scoring 95% or higher on one or more areas on the SAT-10 test given this past March. Twenty-two of these outstanding students qualified in both reading and math!
The 4th/5th Grade Talent Search provides academically talented students an opportunity to enhance their academic abilities. According to the Duke TIP website, students who qualify are "able to access the online benefits and begin exploring the writing, math, and science online lessons, as well as the Duke TIP Book Club. Students can enroll in the 4th/5th Grade Talent Search either as a fourth or fifth grader. Once enrolled, benefits of participation continue through the student's sixth grade year.” Benefits include online lessons, writing contests, and the opportunity to take EXPLORE, a test designed for 8th graders, to evaluate their academic development.
Trudi Buscemi, CDS elementary and middle school principal, expressed CDS’s delight in these students’ achievements, “CDS students always make us proud, but we are especially pleased about the large number of Duke TIP scholars this year. It is a significant honor for these hard-working students and for our school."
Congratulations to Carrollwood Day School’s 2012 Duke TIP 4th/5th Grade Talent Search candidates:
