JANUARY 3 - DAY OF CARING

Wednesday, January 3
NOON DISMISSAL

Due to the days missed from Hurricane Irma at the beginning of the year, the school calendar has been adjusted to add a half-day of school on Wednesday, January 3. This half-day will be a day of service for the entire elementary school. The day's activities will benefit current pediatric cancer patients and were initiated by fifth graders Brooke B. and Bobby W. Each grade level is being asked to contribute in a very special way.

  • 1st grade will be collecting games, coloring books, crayons, markers, and fun activities along with clear plastic boxes. These materials can be turned in at the 1st grade suite in their collection box.
  • 2nd and 3rd grades will be collecting stuffed animals and fabric. Items can be delivered to the 2nd and 3rd grade suites.
  • 4th grade is organizing a bake sale and baked goods are asked to be sent in on January 2nd for this!  They will also be collecting ziplock baggies and stickers to label prices. All donations can be turned into the 4th grade suite. The money raised from the bake sale will be donated to the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation which is based out of Tampa, FL.
  • 5th grade is organizing a walk. More details will be coming home on how parents can help!

NATIONAL ELEMENTARY HONOR SOCIETY

NEHS

The CDS chapter of the National Elementary Honor Society recognizes students who excel in academics, while also offering them a way to serve the wider community through service. Membership is open to 4th and 5th grade students who meet the required standards in two areas of initial evaluation: scholarship (academic achievement) and responsibility. Students who met the qualification criteria following the first trimester received an application with their report card.

Students are selected to be members of NEHS by a faculty council, appointed by the Head of Elementary School, and supervised by Mrs. Hendershot, the chapter adviser.  Candidate forms are due tomorrow, Friday, December 1, 2017.
